What does "transgender" mean?

Is it someone who permanently changes from one sex to another, or is it a broader term for anyone who does not fit gender stereotypes?

Transgender is an umbrella term describing anyone whose gender identity or expression differs from the biological sex they were assigned at birth.

Transsexual refers to someone who medically changes their body to fit with their gender identity. This may be done through hormone treatments and/or surgical procedures.; ▶ Reply to This
